Imagine this. You are in a park. Enjoying nature and its pleasantries. And then you suddenly realize that your energy guzzler of a smartphone’s battery is about to die. So what will you do now? Will you run back to the evil fossil powered concrete jungle just to stay ‘connected’?

Not if you are in Boston. Say hello to ‘Soofas’.

Soofas are park benches which allow residents to plug in their mobile device and charge it using solar power it collects throughout the day. Launched in 2013, these benches have USB ports to charge two devices at the same time. Each of the solar power charging benches costs around $3000 and has a 25-year guarantee.

But this is not all. An app will be offered that shows Boston residents where they can find the solar charging benches and if a port to charge is available. Soofas also have sensors embedded in them to track noise and air quality, which is pushed in real time to the app users so that they can find a quiet place with fresh air.
